Yes, you can buy a capable electric bike under $1000, as long as you know where the savings come from. At the time of writing (October 2026), we carry three e-bikes under that price: the Himiway A3 commuter and Himiway B3 folding bike at $759.24 each, and the Himiway C1 kids e-bike at $607.24. With our flat $130 US shipping, the adult bikes come to $889.24 delivered.
This guide is not a ranking. We have not run our own tests, so instead we lay out the published specs of each option, the trade-offs at this price, and a checklist you can use to judge any e-bike in this range.
What an electric bike under $1000 gets you
An electric bike under $1000 can still have a sizable battery, a throttle and a motor strong enough for daily commuting. The two adult bikes we sell in this range both list a 500 W motor and a 720 Wh battery. Where lower-priced bikes usually differ from pricier ones is in the details:
- Motor type. The adult bikes we carry in this range use rear hub motors rather than mid-drive motors, which work through the bike’s gears.
- Brakes. Some use hydraulic disc brakes, others use cable-operated mechanical discs.
- Suspension and tires. In our catalog, full-suspension and 4-inch fat tire models start above $1,000.
- Weight. The two adult bikes here weigh about 60 to 68 pounds, which matters if you carry the bike up stairs or onto a rack.
None of these are deal-breakers for most commuters. They are simply the places to look closely before you buy.
E-bike options under $1,000 that we carry
Himiway A3 Urban Commuter ST: $759.24
The Himiway A3 is a step-through city bike built for commuting and errands. Our product page lists a removable 48V 15Ah battery, a 500 W motor, a torque sensor and a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain. Himiway’s spec sheet adds:
- 720 Wh battery, with a claimed range of up to 70 miles
- Top speed listed as “20+ mph”, with a thumb throttle
- Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors
- 26 x 2.2 inch tires
- 68.3 lbs weight and a 300 lb maximum payload
- Rider height 5’1″ to 6′
Trade-offs: at 68 pounds, it is not light to lift. Riders taller than 6 feet fall outside Himiway’s listed height range. The 70-mile figure is a best-case manufacturer estimate; expect less with heavy throttle use, hills or cold weather.
Himiway B3 Folding Commuter: $759.24
The Himiway B3 folds to fit a car trunk, an apartment corner or a small storage space. Per Himiway’s specifications:
- 500 W motor and a 720 Wh battery, with a claimed range of up to 70 miles
- Thumb throttle
- Mechanical disc brakes with 160 mm rotors
- 20 x 2.4 inch tires
- 60.6 lbs weight and a 300 lb maximum payload
- Rider height 5′ to 6′
Trade-offs: the B3 uses mechanical rather than hydraulic disc brakes, which generally take more lever force and periodic cable adjustment. Folding saves space, but at about 60 pounds it is still heavy to carry. Himiway does not list a top speed for the B3, so check the display settings when you set it up.
Himiway C1 Kids eBike: $607.24
The Himiway C1 is for children, not adults. Himiway lists it for ages 4 to 12 and rider heights of 3’3″ to 4’9″, with a 350 W motor, a 36V 10Ah battery, 16 x 3.0 inch tires, a 165 lb payload and a weight of 32 lbs with battery. It has a low-speed mode (4, 7 or 9 mph) and a high-speed mode (7, 13 or 15 mph), so parents can start slow. You can find it with our other kids e-bikes.

A3 or B3: which fits you?
Both adult bikes share the same price, motor rating and battery size, so the choice comes down to how you will use and store the bike.
- Choose the A3 if you ride mostly on city streets, want hydraulic brakes and larger 26-inch wheels, and have room to store a full-size bike.
- Choose the B3 if storage is tight, you want to carry the bike in a car, or you mix riding with public transit where folding bikes are allowed.
What to look for in an e-bike under $1,000
Use this checklist for any budget e-bike, including ones we do not sell:
- Battery and charger safety. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission urges buyers to use e-bikes certified by an accredited lab to the applicable safety standards, to charge only with the manufacturer’s charger, and never to charge while sleeping (CPSC). Ask the seller which certifications the bike and battery carry.
- Brakes. Hydraulic disc brakes need less hand force; mechanical discs are simpler to service at home.
- Battery size in watt-hours. Compare Wh, not just volts or amp-hours. Our long-range electric bikes guide shows how to turn Wh into a realistic range.
- Weight and storage. Check the weight against how often you will lift the bike.
- Payload and rider height. Payload covers rider plus cargo. Make sure both fit within the listed limits.
- Throttle and class. A throttle is handy, but it affects the bike’s class and where you can ride. See our e-bike classes and laws guide.
- Returns and warranty. Read the terms before you pay, especially when buying online.
Electric bikes under $900 and under $800
If your budget is $900, both adult options fit even after shipping: $759.24 plus $130 comes to $889.24. For electric bikes under $800, the A3 and B3 fit on bike price alone, but not once shipping is added. The C1 is the only bike we carry that stays under $800 delivered, and it is built for kids.

FAQ
Is an e-bike under $1,000 worth it?
For commuting and errands, it can be. The adult bikes we carry at this price list a 500 W motor and a 720 Wh battery. Expect compromises in weight and components compared with pricier models, and check the brakes and certifications.
What is the best ebike under 1000 for commuting?
We have not tested bikes head to head, so we do not name a single best. Among the bikes we sell, the A3 suits riders with storage space who want hydraulic brakes, and the B3 suits riders who need a folding bike.
How far can a sub-$1,000 e-bike go?
Himiway claims up to 70 miles for both the A3 and B3. Real range depends on assist level, throttle use, rider weight, terrain and temperature, so plan on less for mixed riding.
Can a budget e-bike handle hills?
A 500 W motor combined with low gears and steady pedaling helps on moderate hills. Heavy riders on long, steep climbs will use more battery and may see slower speeds.
Do the A3 and B3 have a throttle?
Yes. Himiway lists a thumb throttle on both. Throttle bikes limited to 20 mph fit Class 2 in states that use the three-class system.
