An electric cargo bike carries groceries, gear and everyday loads that would overwhelm a regular bike. Right now we carry one electric cargo bike, the Himiway C3 ($1,139.24 at the time of writing, October 2026). It is a step-through with 20-inch CST tires, a 750 W geared hub motor and a 48V 20Ah (960 Wh) battery. Himiway rates it for a 440 lb maximum payload, with riders up to 265 lb.

How to choose an electric cargo bike

Payload. Add rider weight and cargo together. On the C3, that total can reach 440 lb.

Brakes. Loads lengthen stopping distances. The C3 uses Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors front and rear.

Wheel size and frame. 20-inch wheels keep the load low, and a step-through frame is easier to mount with a full rack.

Weight. The C3 weighs 80 lb with the battery, so plan for ground-level storage.
